I now have a website for people to buy travel online (I’m a new travel agent). I was thinking of advertising in newspapers for a "special" price on a cruise. Do people actually buy cruises they see listed in the newspaper or should I think of something else? I wanted to offer a discount package for people in the midwest that would include airfare & the cruise (from florida to the bahamas). Any suggestions???

Our family is going to go to Disney World in Orlando Florida this year. Of course, I want to get the best deal possible. Whom should I book the trip through to get the best deal? A travel agent? AAA? Or through the Disney web site?

Hey..I live in Winnipeg, love it, but I want to get away for the summer. I’m trying to find somewhere to go on vacation with a friend (preferably not in Canada or the US), but it seems like all the sites I go to for cheap flights from Canada leave from more major cities like Toronto and Calgary. Has anyone been able to find a site/travel agent..anything…for cheap flights out of winnipeg to other countries? Or are there any vacation packages you’d recommend?? Thanks!

I’m planning a vacation to Maui, most likely going through Apple Vacations. I’ll be staying at the Aston Ka’anapali Shores. Is Apple Vacations the best way to get flight/hotel/rental car in one place for a great price? Is there any benefit to having the travel agent book through Apple Vacations, rather than just going online and doing it myself? (I checked her rates against the rates I look up myself on the website and they are exactly the same plus the she charges for her service). And are there any other vacation packaging websites similar to Apple? (not Orbitz or Hotwire)
No, I won’t have to look for those things, because Apple vacations is a package vacation deal, it’s what she uses as well. Like I explained, her price quotes are exactly the same (plus for her service) as the Apple Vacations website. The site gives the hotel, flight, and rental car.

I was looking into becoming a refering travel agent for this company but was a little disheartend when I went to the website and found nothing about booking a travel package and I would never book a vacation from a website like this, especially with sites like expedia, travelocity and priceline out there. Does anyone know how it works to book a vacation from them, the site just tells you that you can make alot of money but nothing really about the product or how to sell it.
It just feels like a scam.

I want to be a travel agent for selling airline tickets at retail price. Do I need to join any membership and pay the annual fee? How can I get the cheaper tickets?

I have been to their site, and all this is basically information overload. Too many ticket options, too many resort options. And somehow I have ended up with 2 differents sets of travel packages, one of which I thought was done until I realized it wasn’t. After I chose my resort and ticket packgae I go back and it’s not there! Even after I saved it. There has to be an easier way……..right? Should I click reserve and hope for the best? Or just go through a travel agent?
Sorry, additional question. This is obviously a sprawling complex, and I am sure they charge you at every chance. How do I make sure I don’t get any costly surprises? This vacation itself is costly enough!

I have been a travel agent for 3 years and before I became an agent, I ALWAYS booked my leisure travel through an agent. I cross my eyes sometimes with some of the outragous questions I see on here. If people just picked up the phone and spoke to someone that knows the industry and what they were talking about they would be much better off. I’m not talking about transportation. Meaning if you are going from LA to NYC and staying with your aunt, purchasae your ticket online. But if you need a package or leisure vacation you’re robbing yourself of value. I don’t know of an agent that adds service fees unless it’s only airline tickets. Airlines don’t pay commission to agents so they must add on a service fee. But for packages we’re compensated once the client travels. We’re also educated by product seminars and have relationships with vendors that can add value. I just don’t understand why people rob themselves of service. The internet is a great resourse tool and so is a travel agent

While booking air ticket on Kingfisher for an international destination from Mumbai, my travel agent said that the airline does not accept credit card payment and insisted on cash / cheque payment. Is this correct? In usual transactions, the travel agent would be the point of sale and should be able to swipe the credit card. The airline should not be concerned about the mode of payment. But does the airline industry operate differently? I find it strange that an airline that accepts credit cards on it’s own website will not accept payment when made through an agent.
